01Challenge

Understanding who the young people already occupying elected office and public management roles in Brazil are, mapping their journeys, political innovation practices and the challenges of their work, on the eve of the 2022 election cycle, against a backdrop of recurring discredit and delegitimization of youth political action. The methodological challenge was twofold: conducting deep qualitative research, with exploratory mapping, in-depth interviews and focus groups, entirely remote due to the pandemic, and then turning a large volume of findings into a narrative that could circulate beyond academic circles, reaching young leaders, parties, electoral support organizations and the press.

02Solution

Collaboration with Instituto Update's research team on defining the methodological model: exploratory mapping of 250 young people in institutional and electoral politics, in-depth interviews with 30 leaders (elected officials, candidates and public managers) and 9 online focus groups with young people from different regions, parties and political spectrums. Supporting the interviews and collectively organizing findings into insights, together with Rede Conhecimento Social, data_labe and Politize!. From there, designing the report's narrative architecture: how to structure dense research into chapters that read like a journey, with real quotes, data and practical recommendations. The result took the form of a chapter-based microsite, with an interactive map locating each interviewee geographically, making visible the regional, racial, gender and political-spectrum diversity of the sample. I was also one of the specialists consulted for the research, drawing on my experience as former communications director at Engajamundo.
